ITINERARY
FIRST DAY
Reception at the airport or bus station, and transfer to the lodge office for important information about the tour.
From there, we'll head to the port and take a one-hour boat ride to our lodge, where we'll be welcomed with a refreshing juice made with local fruits.
After settling into our rooms, we'll embark on a two-hour guided hike through the dense rainforest with an expert local guide. Along the way, we'll see a variety of trees, some of which are over 500 years old. We'll also have the opportunity to observe wildlife such as toucans, orioles, parrots, monkeys, snakes, and butterflies. This hike is an opportunity to experience the magic of the Amazon rainforest within the Tambopata National Reserve (278,000 hectares of land protected by Peruvian law).
After lunch, we'll visit Monkey Island, located across the Madre de Dios River from our accommodation. Here, we'll see different species of monkeys, such as the brown capuchin monkey, the squirrel monkey, the saddle-backed tamarin, and the white capuchin monkey.
After the activity, we will return to the accommodation.
At night, we'll search for alligators on the banks of the Madre de Dios River. If we're lucky, we might spot a capybara, the world's largest rodent, which can weigh up to 60 kilos. A flashlight is required for this activity.
Then we returned to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
SECOND DAY
After an early breakfast, we'll take a short boat ride to the entrance of Lake Sandoval.
After checking in at the checkpoint, we will hike 3 kilometers (approximately 2 miles) to the lake, which is one of the largest in the Tambopata National Reserve and is home to piranhas.
Upon arrival, our guide will take a rowboat and we'll stroll across the lake to observe a variety of bird and monkey species, including cormorants, herons, puma, eagles, howler monkeys, squirrel monkeys, black capuchins, marmosets, and sloths. If we're lucky, we might even spot the endangered giant otter family (almost two meters long) or the largest alligator ever recorded, measuring over four meters long.
We will return to the hotel to enjoy a typical lunch.
Then we returned to the city.
