- Palace of Knossos with Walking Tour in Heraklion

Meet your guide at the Cretan Spiti Travel terminal, opposite the entrance to the Heraklion Archaeological Museum, in front of Hari's Creperie, at 8:30 AM. Then, depart by vehicle for approximately 5 km southeast of the city to visit the famous Palace of Knossos, the heart of Minoan civilization.
Built between 1700 and 1400 BC, the palace features advanced architecture, with some sections reaching up to 5 stories high. With its 1,300 interconnected rooms, warehouses, theater, and ceremonial spaces, Knossos reveals the ingenuity of Europe's first advanced civilization.
Excavations began in 1878 by Minos Kalokairinos and were later expanded by Sir Arthur Evans, revealing remarkable artifacts and stories dating back to 7000 BC. After exploring the palace ruins and uncovering the myths and history of King Minos and the Minotaur, return to the Cretan Spiti Travel terminal at 11:30.
At 11:30, continue with the guide to discover the historic center of Heraklion. Stroll through its vibrant streets and past its monuments, exploring the city's rich past and dynamic present. Learn about the 7th Labor of Hercules, the birthplace of El Greco and Nikos Kazantzakis, and hear fascinating stories about Heraklion's turbulent past.
During the tour, visit landmarks such as:
Cathedral of Saint Minas
Lions Square (where you can sample traditional Cretan bougatsa and local raki)
Church of Titus
Heraklion City Hall
Kule Fortress
Other impressive Venetian monuments
The tour ends at the Cretan Spiti Travel terminal at 2 PM, after a day full of mythology, history, and authentic Cretan flavors.
