We'll set off for Rabat, about an hour's drive away. Arriving in the kingdom's capital, we'll visit the Hassan Tower, the splendid Mohammed V Mausoleum, the Bouregrag River, the Kasbah of the Udayas, the Medina, and the Meshouar walls surrounding the royal palace.
Morocco's coastal capital since 1912, Rabat has a population of just over one million. Modern and even reserved by Moroccan standards, the city also boasts many fascinating historical sites, including the picturesque Kasbah of the Udayas, a UNESCO World Heritage-listed kasbah (Islamic fortress) built during the reign of the Almohads in the mid-12th century. The unique Hassan Tower, begun in the late 12th century, was supposed to have the largest minaret in the world, but was never completed. Directly opposite the tower stands the 20th-century Mausoleum of Mohammed V. This mausoleum contains the tombs of Moroccan King Mohammed V and his two sons. As you'll discover, this building is considered a masterpiece of modern Alaouite architecture, with its white silhouette topped by a typical green-tiled roof.
Visit Rabat's Old Medina, an ancient walled part of the city filled with labyrinthine streets lined with fountains, palaces, mosques, and markets. Here, you'll see the walls of the Mechouar, a heavily guarded royal palace surrounded by gardens. Notes: Please call 48 hours before your tour departure time to confirm your hotel pickup.
