- Trail to Laguna Esmeralda.
This hike is one of the most accessible you can do in the southernmost city in the world.
Unique and invigorating, the main objective is to reach Laguna Esmeralda.
We will be picked up from our accommodation and head north, about 20 minutes from the city.
Upon arrival, the guide will explain that we will need to cross the Lasifashaj Valley along a well-marked and signposted trail.
Depending on the season, we will cross various peat bogs and rocky terrain.
After a stretch through the forest, we continued our hike along the Esmeralda River until we reached the indescribable Laguna Esmeralda, a small lake of glacial origin, named for the greenish color resulting from the sediments of the Ojo del Albino Glacier. This color can only be appreciated in summer, as in winter the lake freezes over and is covered in snow.
While enjoying the view of the lagoon, we'll take a break to recharge our batteries with a packed lunch.
Then, we will begin our return along the already known trail, having one last opportunity to admire the beauty of the surroundings.
At the end of the walk, we will meet the vehicle that will take us back to the city of Ushuaia.
