- Albino Eye Glacier Trail
The route follows the traditional trail to Laguna Esmeralda. After this stage, we follow a trail that skirts the right side of the lagoon, advancing at a slow and controlled pace due to fallen trees and old, inactive beaver dams that make passage difficult. Leaving the edge of the vegetation, at about 650 meters above sea level, we enter mountainous terrain with continuous climbs, where the real physical challenge begins. Our guide leads us along the most accessible and safe route.
As we progress, we face large, unstable boulders until we reach a natural terrace with panoramic views of Laguna Esmeralda and the Sorondo mountain range, including Mount Olivia and the neighboring mountain known as "Cinco Hermanos." At this point, it's crucial to find the best passage to ascend the glacier. This section of the route is the most delicate, so our guide always carries safety equipment, such as ropes and carabiners, to ensure a safe and careful ascent.
Suddenly, we came face to face with a majestic expanse of glacial ice, with the imposing Rhino Towers overlooking the landscape. We enjoyed the stunning view while resting with a sandwich and hot soup to replenish our energy before beginning the return journey. Although the adventure wasn't over yet, we cautiously began our descent, following the same trail we had used on the way up.
