The Chauchilla cemetery is a necropolis dating back over 1,000 years and belonging to the Ica-Chincha culture period.

This tour promises a unique blend of archaeology and history.

ITINERARY

The Chauchilla cemetery tour typically takes place after or before the Nazca Lines flight, with guests being picked up from their respective hotels. The Chauchilla archaeological site is located in a desert area, approximately 28 kilometers from the city of Nazca.

For many years, this pre-Inca cemetery was looted by treasure hunters, who destroyed the tombs and stole all the treasures within: the mummies.

During the visit, you can see skeletons and skulls, as well as well-preserved tombs over a thousand years old, long braids of human hair and mummified bodies of children in perfect condition.

After exploring the Chauchilla area, we'll return to Nazca and visit a potter's workshop. He'll share details about the evolution of the Nazca civilization and show us how the people of this culture made their beautiful and colorful pottery two thousand years ago.

To conclude our tour, we'll visit a site where informal miners often work in extreme conditions to extract gold from rocks. The technique dates back to colonial times and involves the use of large mortars, abundant water, and mercury. A miner/exhibitor will be on hand to kindly explain the entire process involved.
