- Santa Teresa, Lapa and Cinelândia with a cable car ride and the Selarón Steps
We will visit many of the most traditional places in Rio de Janeiro. We will start our trip by cable car from the city center to Santa Teresa, passing by the Arcos da Lapa, and visiting the Parque das Ruínas, the Escadaria Selarón, the Passeio Público, Cinelândia and the Confeitaria Colombo.
We will start our tour in the city center, where we will take the cable car to the bohemian neighborhood of Santa Teresa. We will pass by the Arcos da Lapa, the aqueduct used to connect the water from Santa Teresa to the city center, one of the most traditional postcards of Rio de Janeiro. In Santa Teresa, we will experience a very interesting local atmosphere.
We will walk through the bohemian neighborhood of Santa Teresa, a bucolic area in Rio de Janeiro. Located on a hillside, Santa Teresa will become a district of cultural interest due to its architectural value and privileged location, famous for its narrow and winding cobblestone streets and for being a favorite spot for many artists and tourists. The atmosphere will be similar to that of Montmartre in Paris.
We will visit Parque das Ruínas (closed on Mondays), a public park with an art gallery built around the ruins of a mansion. We will take a few minutes to enjoy the city views, especially the downtown area and Sugarloaf Mountain. Then we will descend the colorful Escadaria Selarón, one of Rio's main attractions, and arrive at the Lapa neighborhood, the area with the most traditional nightlife. We will take a walk along Passeio Público, the oldest public park in South America, until we reach Cinelândia, a lively place in Rio thanks to its bars, restaurants and cultural attractions. Among the many notable buildings in the area, we will notice the Theatro Municipal, the most traditional theater and opera house in Rio de Janeiro, as well as the Biblioteca Nacional, the most important library in Brazil.
Our last stop will be at Confeitaria Colombo (closed on Sundays), a permanent member of all the “must-visit café” rankings around the world. We will appreciate the opulent art nouveau décor, with huge stained glass windows, tiles and mirrors imported from France, Portugal and Belgium. We can end our tour by tasting one of the traditional Brazilian snacks - such as chicken coxinha - or desserts - such as brigadeiro, in one of the most prestigious places in Rio de Janeiro from the early 20th century.
