- Tour to the Tatio Geysers
This tour takes visitors to one of the most impressive and unique experiences in the Atacama Desert: the natural spectacle of the Tatio Geysers, combined with high-altitude landscapes, wildlife, and a glimpse into local Andean culture.
The adventure begins early, before sunrise, to arrive in time for the Tatio Geysers, the third-largest geothermal field in the world and the largest in the Southern Hemisphere. Located over 4,200 meters above sea level, the site reveals the full force of nature through columns of steam and jets of boiling water that erupt from the ground amid the intense morning cold. The contrast between the hot steam and the icy air creates an almost mystical landscape, with smoke dancing above the ground as the sun begins to illuminate the surrounding mountains.
After this geothermal spectacle, we head to the charming town of Machuca, a small Andean village with rustic adobe and straw buildings, home to a few families who preserve ancestral traditions. You can try typical foods, such as llama meat skewers, and visit the small local chapel. It's worth remembering that Machuca is closed on Tuesdays, so this stop depends on the day of your visit.
We ended the tour with a visit to Bofedal de Putana, a highly important ecosystem in the mountainous region. It's a humid area in the middle of the desert, where you can observe typical high-altitude flora and a wide variety of fauna, such as vicuñas, flamingos, and other Andean birds. The contrast between the green vegetation, the water, and the mountains in the background creates a scene of rare beauty and tranquility.
This itinerary offers a unique combination of natural phenomena, local culture, and wildlife observation, ideal for those who want to immerse themselves in the essence of Atacama beyond the arid and traditional landscapes.
