ITINERARY
Day 1: ITINERARY - DAY ONE
We will pick you up from your hotels in downtown Arequipa at 7:30 am.
On this tour, we'll visit one of the deepest and most beautiful canyons in the world. We'll arrive in the valley around lunchtime.
First, we'll take the road to Yura and enter the Salinas and Aguada Blanca National Reserve, where we'll be able to see one of the animals protected by this reserve: the vicuña, a wild member of the South American camelid family.
Also nearby is the village of Patahuasi, where we recommend drinking the traditional Inca Mate, a traditional drink essential for altitude sickness (soroche), as it contains two natural herbs: coca leaf, muña and chachacoma.
Next, we will make a brief stop at the Bofedales de Toccra, where we will observe a large number of alpacas feeding freely in the area.
Another must-see stop is the Mirador de los Volcanes, the highest point on the road, reaching 4,900 meters above sea level, from where we'll admire the volcanic chain of the Western Cordillera. From there, we'll begin our descent for approximately 40 minutes to reach the town of Chivay.
We will arrive in Chivay to enjoy a delicious traditional lunch around 1 pm.
Afterwards, we'll check into our hotels and visit the thermal baths, which are very good for the skin and bones. These thermomedicinal baths are highly recommended.
At dinner, we will watch a folk show with typical dances from the region.
Overnight in Chivay.
Day 2: ITINERARY - SECOND DAY
We'll have breakfast at our hotels. After breakfast, we'll transfer to the Cruz del Condor viewpoint, a 35-minute drive away. It's the perfect spot to observe the Colca Canyon, the spectacular flight of the condor, and the depth of the canyon.
Here, we will spend an average of 45 minutes observing the beauty of Colca Canyon.
On the way back, we'll make several stops at viewpoints in the area, from which we'll observe the valley's impressive pre-Inca terraces. We'll also visit the colonial villages of Yanque and the town of Maca, where we'll observe its colonial churches and enjoy traditional regional dances. We'll also enjoy local drinks, such as Colca Sour, made with local produce.
We will have lunch in Chivay and return to the city of Arequipa (or Puno, if you choose Puno).
We will arrive in the city of Arequipa and drop you off near the main square around 5:30 pm. Notes: Reservations can be made up to the day before departure.
