- Cooking Class in Mykonos
“Spiti” means home and “Mykonian Spiti” is our home where we will be well received during this culinary experience.
Although this activity highlights the traditional factor of the Mykonos lifestyle, on the other hand, the “traditional” description of its “program” hardly does it justice.
This may sound vague, but during these (approximately) 6 hours we will experience the traditional Greek way of life, culture and the Greek art of cooking.
It's not about what we're going to do, it's mainly about how we're going to do it.
During this time, we will learn cooking tips and methods that have made Mykonos Spiti, Mykonos and Greece loved by their friends and visitors, but most importantly, we will be inspired by the hospitality and everyday lifestyle of a traditional Mykonos family.
After we are picked up from our stay and transferred to Mykonos Spiti, Teta (our host) will wholeheartedly invite us to her beautiful home in Mykonos and create a charming and intimate evening that will transform this visit to the “Island of the Winds” in a highlight of the trip.
She will teach about the culture and history of Mykonos, share stories about her family's life, and make us feel like we are visiting a long-lost friend.
She will share stories about the true Greek lifestyle and we will chat while eating some Mykonos appetizers such as dakos with cheese and tomatoes, kopanisti, louza (sun-dried pork fillets), wine and Cretan raki.
We will stroll through their vegetable garden, learn about local organic farming and have a wonderful time.
And then to the kitchen, where we will make tzatziki, spinach pie, stuffed peppers and tomatoes and everything else on the traditional Mykonos Spiti menu.
All guests will receive protective equipment (aprons and hats) from Mykonos Spiti property.
Most cooking ingredients will be readily available in special bowls in the kitchen area, ready for menu preparation.
Teta will guide us throughout the entire procedure, giving everyone the opportunity to master their culinary skills.
There is a small break between the preparation and the tasting phase, which can be used for a short period of relaxation and to enjoy the company of guests, but after that lunch or dinner begins, where we can eat as much as we want!
There are many other details to the “class” that we could share with you, but the gist is that, as you can see, this is much more than learning how to cook a fabulous Greek meal.
It's also about family, conversation, food and culture and becoming a member of a family you might not have known you had.
It's quality time in the home of someone close to you, finding yourself in the kitchen helping to cook, enjoying the experience of meeting new people and honoring ourselves by being part of our family.
