- Athens city tour with Acropolis
Built in the Attica basin, between the Parnes, Aegalion, Pentelicus and Hymettus mountains and surrounded by the Saronic Gulf, Athens is currently the capital and largest city of Greece. The importance of its geographical location and its mild climate were the main reasons why it was chosen as a place of residence. Throughout its long history, Athens has generated a brilliant civilization that is an indisputable contribution to the world heritage.
During the panoramic tour of the city, we will appreciate the testimonies of a glorious past, harmoniously intertwined with the dynamic and prosperous present of Athens. The first stop is the Panathenaic Stadium or Kalimar, which was built on the site of the ancient stadium where the first Olympic Games of the modern era were held in 1896.
We will see Hadrian's Arch, the tireless guardian of the Temple of Olympian Zeus. We will pass by the Parliament with the monument to the Unknown Soldier, where the traditional Changing of the Guard takes place, in Constitution Square (Syntagma Square). We will go to Concordia Square (Omonia Square), where we will find the three most characteristic buildings of the city: the Academy of Arts, the University and the National Library.
Climb to the Acropolis, where you will see the monuments of the Golden Age of Athens, the works of the time of Pericles, the Propylea - the majestic entrance with the Ionic temple of Athena Niki aside, the Erection, an original Ionic temple and most important of all, the Parthenon, consecrated to the patron goddess of the city, symbol of democratic Athens.
